COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
How we keep this space
kind and safe.
A few clear agreements, and real people looking after them.
Who looks after this space
The Spectrum Connections was started by a parent of an autistic child, who looks after it today. When the community opens, we’ll add a few trained volunteer moderators, parents and autistic adults who have agreed to these guidelines, and name them here.
Our agreements
- Kindness before advice. Listen first. Different journeys are welcome.
- No identifying details. No real names, schools, addresses, phone numbers or photos of people, for you or anyone else.
- Respect autistic voices. Autistic people are the experts on their own lives.
- Share experiences, not medical advice. Never tell someone to start or stop a medicine or treatment.
- No selling, no spam, and no promoting paid services.
- Every faith, and none, is welcome. Your beliefs can be part of your story, but please don’t promote a religion, try to convert anyone, or suggest that prayer or a ritual can “cure” autism. Autism isn’t something to cure.
- No political posts. Please leave out political parties, candidates, elections and political arguments. Sharing how to speak up for autism services, like writing to your MPP about OAP waits, is welcome.
- Content notes before talking about distressing experiences.
- Teens are safe here. Adults never contact teens, and teen circles are teens only.
When something goes wrong
- Hide any post you don’t want to see. Only you will stop seeing it.
- Report a post that breaks these agreements. Reports are private: the person who posted won’t know who reported it.
- A moderator reviews every report. We aim to do this within a day. We may remove a post, send a gentle reminder, or pause an account.
- Posts that look like they share a phone number, email or address are held back before they appear, so nobody shares details by accident.
- If a report says someone may be at risk, it goes to the top of the list, and we share crisis contacts.
If someone is in danger right now, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 9-8-8. This community is not an emergency service.
