CARING FOR YOU

You matter too.

Caring for an autistic child, especially on your own, takes so much. Start with how you feel right now.

This is for

Right now I feel…

Small resets that fit real life

  • Drink a glass of water and eat something, even standing up
  • While your child is safe and busy, close your eyes for two minutes
  • Put on one song you love and sing along
  • Skip one chore today. It can wait
  • Send a message to someone who makes you smile

It’s okay to ask for help

  • Respite means someone else cares for your child for a while, so you can rest
  • Ask your family doctor, your child’s school, or AccessOAP about respite and caregiver support
  • Call 2-1-1 to find support near you
  • When someone offers help, say yes, even to small things

Permission not to be perfect

  • You don’t have to get it right every time
  • There’s no right way to feel. Grief and love can sit side by side
  • Rest is not a reward. It’s a need
  • Asking for help is a strength
  • Your love is enough, even on hard days
